Disney Imagination Competition

Second Runner Up

Hong Kong, 2015

Background

2015 Hong Kong Disney Imagination Competition is one of the most remarkable projects I've ever participated in. Our team won Second Runner-up Award among hundreds of competing teams from Hong Kong, Macau, and China. It's my most impressive project not only because of the contribution of time and passion I spent, but also the experience I gained during the five months’ journey.

The goal of this competition is to create a brand new design for Hong Kong Disney Land Resort in any kind of approaches included architectural design, show play design, resort sites and so on. We were asked to give the visitors an abnormal and unforgettable experience.

Disney gave out training to the top 10 shortlisted groups at the last two months of the competition, it enhanced our ability to present our designs in appealing ways. After couple weeks of training, we, later on performed the final presentation in front of Disney’s Chief Executive Officers and hundreds of audiences. The result was successful. This project made me realize that having my own creations and designs be seen and used is one of the most exciting things to me ever.

Our Work

The Bug's Life Visualization

Our team came up with an entirely new blueprint of Disney Land Resort related to a well-known Disney Animation Story, A Bug’s Life. My teammate is a student from Mechanical Engineering, and I’m from Computer Science.

We spent quite an amount of time discuss and exchange opinions on the design of different scenes. She took place in building up 3D models, and I was responsible for f 2D graphic designs and computational graphic rendering. The project involved quite a lot of Implementation of 3D modelling by Sketch Up, OpenGL, SolidWorks, the production of elegant 2D images by Corel Painter, Photoshop.
